Ronald McDonald House South Island relies heavily on the assistance of more than 60 active volunteers who work in the House on a regular basis. All over the South Island, though, hundreds more commit their time and energy to build awareness and raise funds in support of their own community.

Research shows the path to happiness lies in helping others.

Volunteers perform a wide variety of tasks within the House. If you are able to donate time on a regular basis, maybe an hour a week, 1⁄2 a day per fortnight or whatever time you can give, we can use your help.

Volunteer duties include:

  • Cleaning
  • Baking (either in our House or yours)
  • Gardening
  • After work supervision - from 5.00 - 8.00pm, between the office closing and the after-hours supervisor beginning.
  • Overnight assistants to relieve the after-hours supervisor. Involves staying on site to be on hand if needed.
  • Administration - from helping with mail-outs to covering reception during the holidays, there are a wide number of administrative tasks to help with.
  • Operational - help around the House cleaning, cooking, general maintenance.
  • Administration - data entry, relief reception.
  • Supervision - after-hours and overnight.
  • Fundraising - form a fundraising committee, assist with event ticket sales, set up your own fundraising project.
  • Join the Family Dinner Programme
